British luxury car Aston Martin gets it name from one of the founders Lionel Martin who used to race at Aston Hill near Aston Clinton.

The most expensive car ever sold at a public auction was a 1954 Mercedes-Benz W196R Formula 1 race car, which went for a staggering $30 million in July 2013. The record was previously held by a 1957 Ferrari Testa Rossa Prototype, sold in California at an auction for $16.4 million.

In 1807, Francois Isaac de Rivaz designed the first car that was powered by an internal combustion engine running on fuel gas. in 1886 German inventor Karl Benz created an automobile that featured wire wheels with a four-stroke engine fitted between the rear wheels. He called it the 'Benz Patent Motorwagen'.

The fastest street legal car available in the market (2014) today is the "Hennessey Venom GT" flying at a speed of  270 mph (435 km/h). The car does 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds, has a 7.0 liter LS7 Turbocharged V8 Twin Turbo V8 Engine producing 1244 hp. The track, NASA runway in Florida, is only 5.18 kms long which limited the top speed to 270 mph.
